e2Webif

Howto use the world wide web interface (webif) built into my DM box

The main Webif page for the DM7025, DM800, DM8000

Please note since the 19th of July 2009 these pages have changed

Please note these pages are being updated to incorporate the new JADE3 release

Every DM box has a built in world wide web server or webif as it is also known as.
This webif is so much more advanced and takes a few minutes to get used to. It even has a PDA webif for your smart phone or PDA.
Unfortunately, since 5-8-2011 this 3th party plugin is not allowed on VU+ & ET by it's creators.

Please do not confuse the E1 Webif with this E2 Webif as they are very different.

This E2Webif allows you do to;

Watch SD & HDTV on your computer (streaming)
Change the channels on your set top box
Change the bouquets on your set top box
Change the network provider on your set top box
Change the volume on your set top box
Setup timer events to record
Search a movie database in real time - to get more details on the movies you want to watch/record
Send RSS feeds to other EPG devices (popcorn/tivo etc) on your LAN
... and so much more.

In short the webif provides you with control of your DM box from a web browser like Firefox3 and from your PDA.

In this example below we will use the IP address of http://dreambox (which on my network is 192.168.1.107) and this world wide web site in your DM box will appear.

The menus on the left handside of the webif

This is where all the business happens in the Webif. But before we get into a detailed description there are a few things
you will have need to have done (or not done whatever the case may be).
  1. Make sure you have scanned your satellites (otherwise this is all a bit pointless)
  2. If you use dreamEDIT make a series of bouquets. There is an example called "ALL" in the image below
  3. If you do not use dreamEDIT or some other application to do this do not panic as we will get to this below

What does the TV & radio option allow me to do?

If you have defined your favorites or added a bouquet to your DM box you can from this menu
do many things. You will note when you have defined a bouquet or favorites list the menu looks
very different from one that does not. below we see what is defined under the ServiceList where as
if you did not set this up this screen is blank. (If it is blank look under the Providers TV (or radio)
menu below on this wiki page)

Sidebar Menu - Box Control - Message Menu

This is a really great feature and one I use all the time to send a message to the kids TV.
You can send a message via the Webif no matter where you are (if you have port forwarding set up)
to a TV in your home. The kids get a kick out of this when daddy says "hi" from work.

You can send 4 type of ODS skinned messages to the TV from remote, being;
  1. Info (OSD message type)
  2. Yes No (OSD message type with a yes/no option)
  3. Warning (OSD message type)
  4. Info (OSD message type)

Warning: unlike the E1 version these messages stay on the TV screen until you dismiss them or use the
timer to make them go away, so do not stack up to many messages else the family will go nutty as they
can not watch TV

[note we have posted the TV OSD message in the image below]

Sidebar Menu - Box Control - Remote Control

This is a great menu for those of you have kids (smile) and they have hidden the remote control
on you. Simply click on this option and up will pop a normal remote for you to use. Use it exactly
the same way as you normally do.

Tip: Click here to learn how to use your remote control

Sidebar Menu - Extras - Screen Shot

With this option us can;
  1. Check from remote (away from the set top box) that the box is working
  2. Make a screen shot off the box so you can use it

PLi

the About menu

tell me about my box

This is a very informative menu with provides six (6) blocks of information being;

Software
The current software installed in your DM box. In this casr Pli Jade Final

Tuners
Depending on how many tuners you have installed and the type it will tell you which ones are active

Harddisk
This will give you your HDD/CIF and USB (as pictured below) details and the free space on each device

Network
A great little helper screen. This will give you your network (LAN) details and great for trouble shooting

PLi

Google Gears can be used with this version of the Webif to lighten the CPU load
PLi

Google Gears is installed on the computer you use your webif on.

the Web TV menu

the WebTV menu

Watch TV on your PC, notebook or smart phone(MS based) via this new feature. You must have a
bouquet or series of bouquets set up in your box first, for this to function. If you have
no bouquets set up then webtv will not know what to play on your PC etc...

PLi

the Volume box

changes the volume on my box

As the title says, with this menu option you can change the volume on your E2 set top box and TV. Great to wake the kids up with (smile)

PLi

If you click to the left the volume is reduced andif you click to the right the volume is increased

the EPG Search box

a great hidden feature in the E2 webif

This option will allow you to search the entire active EPG on the satellite you are currently using.
You can also search by keyword like in the example below, where we searched on the keyword "SPORT"
or just select the search option with nothing in the search box for an entire channel epg list

PLi

Now you can do the normal things like setting up timers for recording, or to change channel etc.

the Satellite Signal box

another great hidden feature in the E2 webif

If you click on the little signal box, the signal data for the transponder / channel you are watching will
appear as this example shows;

PLi

If you have wifi enabled on your LAN you can use this with your notebook to tune your satellite dish rather
than the old fashion ways of doing it.

the INSTANT RECORD icon

The big RED DOT in the top right of the webif screen

With this option you can record the current channel to your hard or mounted device if you
have set it up in the menu already to do this.
