Additions:
1) Via the webif web interface (webif) which we will show below **//(easy way of doing it)//**
You will need to know how to share a directory on your hard disk on your computer to the local area network (the F1 key on most operating systems will provide HELP on how to do that), as this section could take many pages to write up alone as there are so many different operating systems out there that support this function i.e. Windows 2000, Windows 2003 Server, Windows XP, Windows Vista, OSX, leopard, 100's of linux distributions, Solaris etc ..
Howto add a shared directory to your DM box using the web interface webif (webif)
**Filesystem Type:** in most cases it will be '1' CIFS
The first share to **/media/hdd** (on all boxes without a hard disk installed in it)
The second share on **/media/server1** (DM boxes with on board HDD's should start here not /media/hdd)
The third share on **/media/server2** and so on.
You need to use your remote control to input all the data. The numbers on the remote control are similar to the numbers on your mobile phone, and use the same sort of input to this screen as you do when you send a SMS message on your phone. Another words this will take a while //(this is why I love the webif webif option above)//
**Filesystem:** in most cases it will be CIFS

The numbers on the remote control are similar to the numbers on your mobile phone, and use the same sort of input to this screen as you do when you send a SMS message on your phone. Another words this will take a while //(this is why I love the webif option above)//
**Filesystem:** in most cases it will always be CIFS
**IP address:** Try to always use a fixed IP address here, and this is the IP address of your shared directory
**Mountpoint:** this is where you put the mount on your DM box. Select from the drop down menu
**Server directory:** this is the name of the shared directory on your other DM box or computer
**Username:** if you have one on your shared directory
**Options:** Press the blue button for this option. This is to make the shared connection work smoothly on LAN. The default settings shown work well in most cases
Now if you are happy with your input, press the **green button** to save it.

Revision [213]

Edited on 2008-05-29 19:31:00 by jonc [Renamed Generic to:E1]
Additions:
- You need to know the **fixed IP** address of your DM box and the devices you are sharing (not DHCP)
Now this is where we get busy.
**Description:** The name you want to call the share you are setting up
**Filesystem Type:** in most cases it will always be '1' CIFS
**Automount:** Check this option if you always want this share to start when your DM box starts
**Client Directory:** this is where you put the mount on your DM box. Look in the /media directory on your DM box for examples
**Server Directory:** this is the name of the shared directory on your other DM box or computer
**Remote Host IP/Name:** Try to always use a fixed IP address here, and this is the IP address of your shared directory
**User Name:** if you have one on your shared directory
**Password:** if you have one on your shared directory
**Options:** This is to make the shared connection work smoothly on LAN. The default settings shown work well in most cases
Once you have entered all the details click on the save button and you should see this screen.
Now on some boxes you may need to click on the "mount" button if there is no tick. In some of the older boxes a restart is required for the tick to appear. Try both options.
//The example above shows;//
A DM600 mounted to a DM500
A DM7020 mounted to a DM500
A Windows Vista PC directory (in this the movies folder in My Media Center) mounted to a DM500.
//Now take note of where they are mounted to.//
The first share to /media/hdd (on all boxes without a hard disk installed in it)
The second share on /media/server1 (DM boxes with on board HDD's should start here not /media/hdd)
The third share on /media/server2 and so on.
For a full list of where to put your shares look in the /media directory on your DM box.
Deletions:
- You need to know the **IP** address of your DM box and the devices you are sharing
