Howto mount a LAN based hard disk to my DM box
System Settings
E1 Enigma 1 or E1 menus. Click here for the E2 MenusThis can be done in two ways
- Via the DM box itself with your remote control under Menu>Setup>System Settings >Network Mounts
- Via the web interface (webif) which we will show below (easy way of doing it)
A example of the end result using the remote control and the PLi® menus in the latest image

A example of the end result using the web interface in the latest PLi® image [The easiest way to configure this]

Here we show very real examples of how to mount any DM box to any DM box, and how to mount any network shared device (in these example a Vista Pc sharing its Windows Media center movie drive called 'out') to your DM box.
Support the PLi® team and get a cup of coffee.
Requirements
- Another DM box with a hard disk installed on the same local area network (LAN)
- A shared directory on an existing PC / Linux box / Mac from your hard disk on the same local area network (LAN)
- A LAN storage device i.e. Netgear on the same local area network (LAN)
- You need to know the **fixed IP** address of your DM box and the devices you are sharing (not DHCP)
Assumptions
You will need to know how to share a directory on your hard disk on your computer to the local area network (the F1 key on most operating systems will provide HELP on how to do that), as this section could take many pages to write up alone as there are so many different operating systems out there that support this function i.e. Windows 2000, Windows 2003 Server, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, OSX, 100's of linux distributions, Solaris etc ..example help screens

Howto add a shared directory to your DM box using the web interface (webif)
1. Open your web browser to the IP address of your DM box. In this example we us the IP address of 192.168.1.201

2. Now click on the drop down menu called Box control, then Click on the option called "configuration"

3. Click on the option called "Mount Manager". You will note this menu is empty the first time you use it as shown below.

4. Now Click on the Green button to 'add' a new mount to you DM box.

Now this is where we get busy.
Description: The name you want to call the share you are setting up
Filesystem Type: in most cases it will be '1' CIFS
Automount: Check this option if you always want this share to start when your DM box starts
Client Directory: this is where you put the mount on your DM box. Look in the /media directory on your DM box for examples
Server Directory: this is the name of the shared directory on your other DM box or computer
Remote Host IP/Name: Try to always use a fixed IP address here, and this is the IP address of your shared directory
User Name: if you have one on your shared directory
Password: if you have one on your shared directory
Options: This is to make the shared connection work smoothly on LAN. The default settings shown work well in most cases
5. Once you have entered all the details click on the save button and you should see this screen.

Now on some boxes you may need to click on the "mount" button if there is no tick. On some of the older boxes a restart is required for the tick to appear. Try both options.
The example above shows;
A DM600 mounted to a DM500
A DM7020 mounted to a DM500
A Windows Vista PC directory (in this the movies folder in My Media Center) mounted to a DM500.
Now take note of where they are mounted to.
The first share to /media/hdd (on all boxes without a hard disk installed in it)
The second share on /media/server1 (DM boxes with on board HDD's should start here not /media/hdd)
The third share on /media/server2 and so on.
For a full list of where to put your shares look in the /media directory on your DM box.
Tip: Look at the top right of this screen and you will now see the HDD on the first(1st) share there with it hard disk details
Howto add a shared directory to your DM box using the remote control
With your remote control press the menu button and this screen will appear

Now select the setup option and press the OK button

Now select the System Setting option with your remote and then press the OK button

Now use your arrow keys to select the Network Mounts option and press your OK button

Now select the ADD option and press the OK button

You need to use your remote control to input all the data. The numbers on the remote control are similar to the numbers on your mobile phone, and use the same sort of input to this screen as you do when you send a SMS message on your phone. Another words this will take a while (this is why I love the webif option above)
So lets get busy
Description: The name you want to call the share you are setting up
Filesystem: in most cases it will be CIFS
Automount: Check this option if you always want this share to start when your DM box starts
IP address: Try to always use a fixed IP address here, and this is the IP address of your shared directory
Mountpoint: this is where you put the mount on your DM box. Select from the drop down menu
Server directory: this is the name of the shared directory on your other DM box or computer
Username: if you have one on your shared directory
Password: if you have one on your shared directory
Options: Press the blue button for this option. This is to make the shared connection work smoothly on LAN. The default settings shown work well in most cases
Now if you are happy with your input, press the green button to save it.

You will now see the green ticks indicating the mount is working 100%. On some of the older boxes a restart is required for the tick to appear. Try it and check back with this screen to make sure it is working.
How do I see what is on the mounted drives?
As you would expect there are four ways this time to check that your mount is working on your DM box.
- Use the remote control (shown below)
- Use the web interface
- Use telnet
- Use ftp
In this case we will only show the most common example.
Using the remote control function to view your mounted files
Here we will first look at the normal method of doing this with the remote control. Press the menu button

Now select the File Mode option and press the OK button

As you can see all the mounts are there and ready to be used. Now that was simple.
Or you use the Web interface to view the movies on these mounts by selecting movies and then the mount you made from the drop down menu as shown in the image below.

By doing this you are one step closer in setting up your own media center.
TIP: If you mount any DM box that has a hard disk to your DM box and you have an issue with viewing the movies you have recorded on the other box, then read this message from gusman who gives a quick fix to the problem.
